What does a mobile tyre fitter do?
A mobile tyre fitter brings the equipment and expertise to wherever your vehicle is, instead of asking you to take it to a garage. With SOS Tyre, this means you don't have to drive to a workshop on a deflated or flat tyre, risking damage to the rim and making the tyre unrepairable.
On the spot we can carry out a tyre repair, when the damage allows, or a wheel change with your spare or space-saver. By appointment we also do tyre changes at your door, including the seasonal changeover between summer and winter tyres, at home or at the office.
Where can we work?
We can work in most places where you leave your vehicle, in Milan, the surrounding area and the neighbouring provinces:
| Location | What we need to know |
|---|---|
| Outside your home, on the street | Street, house number and side of the road; whether the car is double-parked or in a tight spot |
| Residential courtyard | How to get in, whether someone needs to open the gate |
| Garage or lock-up | Entrance height, floor, space around the wheel |
| Company or office car park | Which entrance to use, any pass or reception |
| Shopping centre or multi-storey car park | Floor, section, pillar or space number |
If you're not sure there's enough space, send us a photo on WhatsApp at +39 377 326 0999.
How do I prepare the spot for the job?
To work properly we need a bit of space around the wheel and ground that's as level as possible. Before we arrive, if you can:
- apply the handbrake and, if the car is an automatic, put it in P;
- empty the boot if the spare wheel or space-saver is under the boot floor;
- find the locking wheel nut key or adapter, if your car has them;
- keep the vehicle keys to hand, if you won't be there in person.
Can we do the job even if you're not there?
It depends on the job, and it needs to be agreed on the phone beforehand. For example, if the car is in the office car park and you're in a meeting, we can arrange how to access the vehicle and the keys. For a scheduled tyre change, we agree together in advance how and when to access the vehicle.
Mobile tyre fitter or garage: when is each the better choice?
A mobile tyre fitter makes sense when the vehicle can't or shouldn't be moved, or when your time is worth more than the trip. Many scheduled jobs, such as the seasonal tyre changeover, can also be done at your door by appointment.
| Situation | Best solution |
|---|---|
| Flat tyre outside your home or in a garage | Mobile tyre fitter: no need to drive on a flat |
| Puncture at the office or in a car park | Mobile tyre fitter: we work where the car is |
| Nail in the tyre but pressure holding | To be assessed on the phone: often it can be dealt with on the spot |
| Tyre change or seasonal changeover | At your door by appointment: see tyre change at your door |
If you have a nail in the tyre or a tyre that keeps losing air, call us before moving the car.
Does the mobile tyre service work for all vehicles?
Yes, we work on cars, motorbikes, SUVs, vans and electric and hybrid cars. Every vehicle has its own particularities, such as larger rims, run-flat tyres or no spare wheel: that's why on the phone we ask for the model and tyre size. The full overview is in the vehicles section.
Frequently asked questions
Can a mobile tyre fitter work in an underground garage?
Often yes, if there's enough space around the wheel and the entrance allows access. For an underground garage in Milan we need the floor, the entrance height and how to get in. If you send a photo on WhatsApp to +39 377 326 0999, SOS Tyre can assess in advance whether the job is feasible.
Do I need to move the car before the mobile tyre fitter arrives?
No, if the tyre is flat it's better not to move it: driving even a short distance can damage the tyre's structure and the rim. Only move it if it's in a position that's dangerous for you or others, at walking pace and only as far as strictly necessary.
What's the difference between a mobile tyre fitter and a tyre fitter at your door?
In practice they're the same service: a tyre fitter who travels with their equipment to wherever the vehicle is. "At your door" is used more for homes and offices, "mobile" for the roadside. SOS Tyre does both in Milan and its province, 24 hours a day, responding quickly wherever the vehicle is.
Do I need the building manager's permission for work in a residential courtyard?
For an emergency job on a car parked in a courtyard, being able to access the parking space is usually enough. If the building's rules impose restrictions or access is through a gate, arrange for us to get in and mention it on the phone when you call.
Can I call the mobile tyre fitter for a family member's car?
Yes. You can call SOS Tyre for a vehicle that isn't yours, for example a parent's car parked outside their home in Milan. We need the address, vehicle model, the contact details of whoever will be there and information on how to access the keys and the boot.
