What does a tyre change at your door include?
A tyre change at your door means replacing your vehicle's tyres wherever you leave it, without taking it to a garage. By appointment we carry out:
- tyre changes: replacing worn or damaged tyres with new ones;
- seasonal changeovers: switching from summer to winter tyres and vice versa;
- pressure checks after fitting, according to the manufacturer's values.
On the phone we'll explain in detail how the job will be done on your vehicle. It's a different service from emergency assistance: if you have a puncture, call us straight away and we'll come out 24/7 as a mobile tyre fitter.
Where can we do the tyre change?
We can do the tyre change in most places where you park your vehicle, in Milan, the surrounding area and the neighbouring provinces:
- outside your home, on the street or in your building's courtyard;
- in your lock-up or a garage, if there's space around the wheels;
- in the office car park;
- at your company's premises, car park or depot.
We need ground that's as level as possible and room to work safely. If you're not sure, send us a photo of the spot on WhatsApp when you book.
How do I book a tyre change at my door?
To book, call or message on WhatsApp at +39 377 326 0999. To organise the job we need a few details:
- your preferred day and time slot;
- address and type of location: street, courtyard, garage, company car park, with directions for access;
- vehicle: make, model and number plate;
- tyre sizes, which you'll find on the sidewall: see how to read the tyre size;
- where the tyres to be fitted are: already with you, in the boot, in a storage room or still to be sourced;
- who will give us access to the vehicle and the keys, if you won't be there.
With these details we set the appointment and arrive prepared.
Do I bring the tyres or do you supply them?
You can supply the tyres yourself, or we can discuss it on the phone based on size and availability. If you already have them, tell us the full size, including load index and speed rating, so we can check beforehand that they match those approved for your vehicle.
The approved sizes are listed in the vehicle registration document. If you're deciding which tyres to choose, you may find the guides on all-season tyres and the EU tyre label useful.
When should you do the seasonal summer/winter changeover?
The seasonal changeover is usually done in autumn and spring. In Italy, from 15 November to 15 April, on roads where ordinances or signs require it, you need winter tyres (M+S or 3PMSF) or snow chains on board; the dates can be extended by the road authority depending on the weather. Rules and details are in the guide on the winter tyres or snow chains requirement.
Since many drivers change their tyres at the same time of year, it's worth contacting us in good time and booking your appointment a few days in advance.
Tyre changes for businesses: how does it work?
For businesses, we carry out tyre changes and seasonal changeovers directly at your premises, car park or depot, without the vehicles having to go to a garage and without taking employees away from their work. SOS Tyre already works with a number of businesses and company fleets.
Together we agree which vehicles to include, the sizes for each, where the tyres are and how to access the site. The terms of collaboration, together with 24/7 assistance for drivers, are described on the tyres for company fleets, taxis and NCC page.
What should you check when changing tyres?
A tyre change is a good time to check the condition of the tyres, both the ones coming off and the ones going on:
- tread: for cars, the legal minimum depth is 1.6 mm (see worn tread);
- age: the last four digits of the DOT code show the week and year of manufacture (see how often to change your tyres);
- damage: cracks, cuts or bulges on the sidewall mean the tyre must be replaced;
- uneven wear: may indicate pressure or wheel alignment problems.
If we notice anything wrong during the job, we'll let you know.
Frequently asked questions
How do I give you access to the car if I'm at work during the tyre change?
We'll agree this when you book. You can leave the keys with a family member, a colleague, the concierge or reception, or give us a time when you can pop down for a few minutes. We also need directions for getting into the courtyard, garage or company car park.
Can you fit tyres I've bought online at my home?
Yes, you can supply the tyres yourself. When you book, tell us the full size, including load index and speed rating, and the vehicle model: we'll check beforehand that they're compatible with the sizes listed in the vehicle registration document, so the job goes ahead without surprises.
How far in advance should I book the seasonal changeover?
There's no fixed rule, but during the switchover periods between summer and winter tyres many drivers book at the same time. Contacting SOS Tyre on +39 377 326 0999 a few days in advance gives you more freedom to choose the day, time and place of the job.
Can the tyre change be done in a residential lock-up garage?
Often yes, if there's room to work around the vehicle and the entrance allows access. When you book, tell us the floor, the entrance height and how to get in; a photo of the garage on WhatsApp helps us understand in advance whether the job can be done there or whether it's better to move the car into the courtyard.
Can tyre changes for several company cars be scheduled on the same day?
Yes, that's exactly where the at-your-door service saves the most time. Tell us how many vehicles there are, their models, tyre sizes and where they are: we'll organise the job together at your company's premises, without the cars having to go to a garage.
