Frequently asked questions

In brief

Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about the SOS Tyre service: how to request assistance, opening hours, areas covered, vehicles we work on, when a tyre can be repaired and what to prepare before you call. We operate 24/7, 7 days a week: for any specific question, call us on +39 377 326 0999.

How are these answers organised?

The answers are grouped by topic: requesting the service, hours and areas, vehicles and jobs, costs. Each answer is written to be read on its own, even on a smartphone.

If your question is about a specific symptom, such as a nail in the tyre or a flat tyre, you'll find more detail in the problems section. For technical and safety questions, see the tyre emergency guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I request assistance from SOS Tyre?

Call +39 377 326 0999 or message us on WhatsApp at the same number, telling us where you are, your vehicle and the problem. Alternatively, fill in the online assistance request. We'll tell you what's possible and then come to you.

Does SOS Tyre operate at night, on Sundays and on public holidays?

Yes. SOS Tyre operates 24/7, 7 days a week, including Sundays and public holidays. You can call at any time of day or night. You'll find more details on the night-time tyre service and Sunday and public holiday tyre service pages.

Which areas does SOS Tyre cover?

We cover the whole city of Milan and its 9 Municipi, every municipality in the Metropolitan City and those in the neighbouring provinces: Monza e Brianza, Varese, Como, Bergamo, Cremona, Lodi, Pavia and Novara. You'll find the list of areas on the areas we cover page.

Do you come to homes, offices and garages too?

Yes. We come to wherever your vehicle is: on the street, outside your home, at the office, in a car park or in a garage, including residential underground garages. If you're in a garage, tell us the floor and how to get in. Find out more on the mobile tyre fitter page.

Which vehicles do you work on?

We work on cars, motorbikes, SUVs, vans, and electric and hybrid cars. We also work with company fleets, taxis and private hire (NCC) operators. Each vehicle has different needs, which are described in the vehicles section.

Will the tyre be repaired or replaced?

It depends on the damage. A small hole in the tread can usually be repaired on the spot; cuts, shoulder damage, bulges or tyres driven on flat for a long way cannot. The final decision is made after inspecting the tyre. See when a tyre can be repaired.

Can you fit a new tyre?

In an emergency, supplying a new tyre is agreed on the phone according to size and availability: that's why we ask you for the exact size before we set off. For a scheduled tyre change, on the other hand, you can supply the tyres yourself or we can discuss it on the phone based on size and availability.

How much does a call-out cost?

The cost depends on the vehicle, the problem and the tyre size. That's why we don't quote generic figures: ask on the phone, on +39 377 326 0999, before confirming the job. That way you know in advance what to expect.

How long will it take you to arrive?

The average arrival time is 30 minutes; we set off as soon as you call and tell you on the phone straight away when we'll arrive. Once on the spot, we'll have you back on the road in no time. In the meantime, stay somewhere safe, away from the carriageway.

What should I prepare before calling?

Have ready your exact location, the type and model of your vehicle, a brief description of the problem and, if you can, the tyre size written on the sidewall. It also helps to know whether you have a spare wheel, space-saver or repair kit, and whether your tyres are run-flats.

Can I send you my location and photos on WhatsApp?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp at +39 377 326 0999 and send your current location from the attachments menu, a photo of the damage and one of the sidewall showing the size. Photos help us make an initial assessment before we set off.

I don't know my tyre size: can I still call?

Of course. If you can't read it, send us a clear photo of the tyre sidewall or of the vehicle registration document, which lists the approved sizes. To learn how to read it, see the guide how to read the tyre size.

I don't have a spare wheel: can you help?

Yes, we can look at your case. If the damage is repairable, the tyre can be repaired on the spot; otherwise, replacement needs to be checked on the phone based on size and availability. Read the no spare wheel page.

Do you work on run-flat tyres?

Yes. With run-flats it's important to know how long and at what speed you drove after the puncture, as this affects whether a repair is possible. Let us know when you call. Find out more on the punctured run-flat page.

Do you also handle company fleets, taxis and private hire (NCC)?

Yes. We work with a number of businesses and company fleets, as well as taxis and private hire (NCC) operators: we change tyres at the company's premises, without taking the cars to a garage, and assist drivers 24/7 in the event of a puncture. Arrangements are agreed with us: see company fleets, taxis and NCC.

Can I book a call-out or a tyre change at my door?

Yes. As well as 24/7 emergencies, SOS Tyre carries out non-urgent jobs and tyre changes at your door by appointment, including the seasonal changeover between summer and winter tyres, at home, at the office or at your company's premises. Call or message us on WhatsApp at +39 377 326 0999. Details on the tyre change at your door page.

Do you come out to the ring road (tangenziale) too?

Call us even if you're on the tangenziale (Milan's ring road) or a provincial road: we cover Milan, the surrounding area and the neighbouring provinces and will assess the situation with you straight away. If you're stopped on the hard shoulder of the tangenziale or a motorway, safety comes first: get out on the side away from the traffic, stay behind the crash barrier and don't cross the road. Read how to stay safe.

Do I need to be there during the job?

It depends. In an emergency you're usually already next to the vehicle. For a scheduled tyre change, we agree together how to access the vehicle and the keys, for example via a colleague, the concierge or reception, especially in a garage or courtyard. Talk it through with us on the phone when you book.

How do you know whether the tyre is repairable before you arrive?

We can't know for certain before inspecting it. From your description and photos we make an initial assessment and tell you straight away if the damage looks, for example, like it's on the sidewall or is a bulge, and therefore probably not repairable. Confirmation comes on the spot, after the inspection.
